Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot always packs a punch! Our 2014 is overflowing with huckleberry compote and fruit pie aromas that combine with notes of cinnamon, vanilla & caramel. Floral ripe plum flavors hint of violets and carry a plush entry. The wine continues to build in intensity becoming jammy and holding on tightly through the finish. The complex tannins are balanced by acidity covered in a blanket of sexy new French oak. Better pair with something you can sink your teeth into, as this one bites back!

Cabernet Franc
Dark and brooding upon opening, a few vigorous swirls allow black currant, cinnamon and smoked paprika aromas out of the glass. Hints of floral are exotically layered over the macerated plum and bramble notes. This is a characteristically bright wine that is both juicy and dense. Raspberry and cherry fruit flavors are accented by cola and tobacco. The fine tannin structure shows the chalky soils in which it is grown and will allow for long-term aging. Try pairing with gourmet mac & cheese made with blue cheese, or grilled figs stuffed with blue cheese. Either should tame the youthful exuberance in this bottle.

Syrah
Syrah might be the Gemini of wines. One side dark, brimming of bacon & tobacco while the other is delicately alluring showing violet & satsuma plum perfume. Wine nerds like myself will be entranced for hours. Savory coriander & black pepper earthiness layer over baking spice, chocolate-covered blueberries & toasted marshmallow. Dense and rich, corduroy texture tannins show simultaneously smooth and grippy. The pairing for this cheeky wine will depend upon the twin it cares to show you. We think peppered skirt steak with a blackberry, thyme reduction and a side of pan-roasted mushrooms might make this wine behave.

Zinfandel
We think the brandied cherry compote adds perfect punctuation to elevate the earthy allspice & fennel aromatics. Zinfandel meets you right at the front with vibrancy of red currant, plum and cranberry fruit. Cocoa powder tannins sit back on the palate, lifted with juicy, vanilla oak character. Slow braised pork, whether served over a bed of soft polenta with a drizzle of jus or even crisped in a pan to create carnitas layered with salsa fresca sounds heavenly to us!

A Historical Vineyard
Markham's Heritage
Our founder, Jean Laurent, founds the winery in 1874 and — after finding success with his wines — builds the stone cellar in 1879 that remains the heart of Markham Vineyards today. Our namesake, Bruce Markham, grows the vineyard footprint, and in 1977 Markham Vineyards is born. Further making history, in 1990 Markham Merlot is named Wine of the Year and in 2001 Kimberlee Nicholls is named as one of the first female head winemakers in Napa Valley. Read more here.
