Calistoga District
Rockerbox Vineyard sits at the foot of Mount Saint Helena, at the headwaters of the Napa River. Flanked by steep hillsides, the 60-acre vineyard is cradled in a natural canyon, surrounded by bay laurel, wild fennel and oak woodlands. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot root deeply in rocky, gravelly soils to produce intense blueberry and blackberry jam characteristics.

The Terroir
Rocky soils stress the vines, lowering yields and packing the small berries with intense structure and flavor. Typically 10 degrees warmer than more southerly districts, soils radiate heat during the growing season, but frequent thermal inversions send cool evening fog spilling down the western hills to drive the autumn heat off the rocks. Rockerbox has a long history of producing extraordinary Bordeaux varietal character and continues to impress in the glass.

The History
Originally settled by the Wappo Indian tribe more than 4,500 years ago, “Napa” Valley derived its name from the Wappo term meaning “land of plenty.” The Wappo Legend of the Geysers tells about a great human mountain, Kanamoto (Mount Saint Helena) — who stood as the stone guardian of the canyon. That canyon — now Rockerbox Vineyard — remains protected by us to this day.
