Sustainably Made

Our farming ethos has always been to respect the land and fruit while working diligently to make both better.
OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Forever Green

Sustainability isn't something we do — it's who we are. It's woven into the fabric of our being and considered at every touchpoint, from soil to fruit and cellar to glass. The character of our wines is intrinsically tied to the health of the soil and the vines, and we are committed to delivering excellence beyond just the wine inside our bottles.

We are
Sustainably Certified

Our sustainability practices replenish the vineyards’ natural resources, improve air and water quality, and protect the land’s ecosystems and wildlife habitats. With each bottle we share, we are reminded of the gifts nature has shared with all of us.

Soil Health

Great Wines Start with Happy Vines

We farm for specificity of soil, area and varietal with a plan carefully cultivated for each vineyard block. Minimal till practices and broad use of cover crops reduce erosion and runoff and maximize the land’s natural power to absorb and store carbon in the ground. Cover crops build healthy soils by adding nitrogen and increase biodiversity to suppress pests and weeds, reducing the need for more aggressive control methods.

Fertile Compost: A Healthy Mix

We recycle our grape pomace locally at a Green Certified waste management facility in St. Helena. Our soil fertility program combines dry compost with soil-building fertilizers including biochar, compost and mulch to enrich our vineyards and help our vines thrive.

The Birds
and the Bees

Nature’s Partners

Bee boxes help keep the land pollinated, and cover crops planted between the vineyard rows attract beneficial insects. Bird and owl boxes welcome natural partners with a bird’s eye view of the vineyards to help manage pests.

Waterway Protection

PROTECTING OUR NATURAL RESOURCES

Working in cooperation with the Napa County Resource Conservation District, we installed specially engineered willow revetments at our Yountville and Calistoga vineyards to stop soil erosion and repair the creek banks bordering our vineyards.

Every Drop Counts

WATER CONSERVATION

All winery wastewater is reclaimed and collected in wastewater ponds to be used for irrigation in the vineyards. Weather stations, irrigation monitoring and efficiency testing give us valuable data for conscious use of this finite natural resource.
